Schools
Fjölís has had an agreement with the Ministry of Education on photocopying in schools and universities since 1984. According to arbitration award made in 1984 the Ministry had to pay for all photocopying in schools and universities for the period in which the Copyright Act had been in force, i.e. since 1973.
The current agreement was signed in January 2001. It applies to all levels of education (primary, secondary and tertiary). It is partly based on a statistical survey which was carried out in late 1998 in primary and secondary schools in Iceland. The parties agreed to postpone a statistical survey in universities.
Music schools
The Ministry of Education pointed out during the negotiations on a new agreement between Fjölís and the ministry, that music schools were no longer under the State but had become the responsibility of local authorities. Consequently, in autumn 1999 negotiations were started with the Association of Head-Teacher’s of Music Schools (AHMS) and a statistical survey was carried out in a few representative schools. Negotiations between Fjölís and the AHMS discontinued in August 2001.
In January 2002 negotiations started between Fjölís and the Association of Music Schools in Reykjavík and an agreement between the association and Fjölís was signed in the beginning of June 2002. The agreement was terminated by the Association of Music Schools by a notice in February 2006. Since then Fjölís has had to sign an agreement with each of the music schools in Reykjavik.
Fjölís has concluded several agreements with private schools.
